Poison singer Bret Michaels has called off his engagement to his girlfriend of 18 years, Kristi Gibson.

Michaels, 49, and Gibson dated off and on for more than a decade and have two daughters, Raine Elizabeth, 12, and Jorja Bleu, 7.

In 2010, Michaels' starred on the VH1 reality show, "Life As I Know it," which focused on his personal life, and he proposed to Gibson on the season finale.

"We've got two beautiful daughters and the engagement is going to be awesome," Michaels told entertainment news program "Extra" last year.

Yet on Monday, Michaels' publicist, Joanna Mignano, said in a statement that the couple has separated, but will "remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising" their daughters, according to The Associated Press.

Michaels has experienced quite a few setbacks, as he suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2010, followed by a small stroke.

Still, Bret Michaels appears to be moving forward, as he has a solo album, "Get Your Rock On," expected to hit stores in September. He also has spoken about his desire to make a biopic in the future.

He recently told The Columbia Dispatch: "I want to give people a Bret Michaels movie where they see that my life is a comedy of errors. I also want to show my fans how to get through the kind of troubles that would leave most people flat on the floor."
