  • An expert says a bunker could be installed under the Laundrie family's home despite the soggy soil
  • Brian Laundrie has been on the run for the last month
  • He is currently the primary person of interest in Petito's death

A conspiracy theory claiming that Brian Laundrie, the primary person of interest in the death of his fiancée Gabby Petito, could be hiding in a bunker under his parents’ garden could be plausible, according to an expert.

The conspiracy theory came after drone footage captured what appeared to be a hand poking out of the soil in the flower garden of the Laundrie family’s home.

Ron Hubbard, CEO of Texas-based Atlas Survival Shelters, said contractors could easily build a bunker under the Laundrie family’s home in North Port, Florida, despite it being soggy. He also added that contractors can also build a secret entrance to the bunker, which he noted is a common request.

"The possibility of having a bunker there, his parents having a bunker, is absolutely 100% plausible," Hubbard told Fox News in an interview.

However, the Atlas Survival Shelters CEO said there is little to no chance that the 23-year-old fugitive is hiding under the garden, noting that FBI investigators have already combed through the property. He also dismissed a theory claiming a hand shot out of the flower bed.

“It didn't look anything like if a hand came out of the bunker to me,” he added. “My own opinion is he's gotten as far away from Florida as he could possibly go."

Laundrie, who has been on the run for the last month, went on a cross-country trip with 22-year-old Petito beginning June 2021. The couple planned to travel in the victim’s white Ford van across the western United States, police said.

However, Laundrie returned to his family’s home alone on Sept. 1, in the white vehicle that he and Petito had been traveling in. The girl’s family reported her missing on Sept. 11 after not being able to get in touch with her. Her remains were later found in a remote camping site in Wyoming on Sept. 19. An initial autopsy ruled her cause of death as a “homicide.”

Laundrie’s family reported him missing on Sept. 17, three days after they said their son left to go for a hike in nearby Carlton Reserve, kicking off a search for the man.

Authorities are expected to discuss the full details of their autopsy Tuesday at 2.30 p.m. ET. The final autopsy report may include details such as Petito’s time and cause of death, according to New York Post.

As of Monday, authorities have yet to find evidence that Laundrie stayed at the Carlton Reserve. However, a former FBI counterterrorism official suggested that Laundrie could be hiding somewhere he is “being taken care of.”

"Clearly he's not out in some camp or some cave somewhere on the hard, cold ground or … snake, gator-infested water. He's somewhere where he's probably being taken care of," Terry Turchie, the former FBI agent, told Fox News Digital.
