Brian McKnight's music probably always fell in the adult comtemporary category, but his latest gives new meaning to the genre.

The soulful singer, whose romantic ballads such as Back At One made for many a swoon-worthy music video, said he had a desire to create something a little racier for fans.

In a song preview video, McKnight said he came up with the idea for an adult mix tape. Then he started to sing part of the song, titled If You're Ready to Learn.

He starts it off with this: Let me show you how your p***y works/since you didn't bring it to me first/I have lots of things to show you if you're ready to learn.

The song also mentions inexperienced men who talk a real good game/but they don't know what a tongue is for.

They wine you and dine you/you let 'em inside you/and leave you wanting more, McKnight sings.

Sure enough, there was a fan outcry, plus harsh words from more conservative listeners. Many also just found the song to be funny.

McKnight defended his music on Twitter.

It's funny how we listen and let our kids listen to songs about killing people and selling drugs and calling women b**ches, he tweeted.

He did, however, remove the video, and tweeted a self-deprecating message: Shutting it down for the night wow what a day I'm sure I'll b forgotten tomorrow lol.
