Bristol Palin is finally ready to discuss calling off her wedding to fiancé Dakota Meyer. The pair was slated to tie the knot in a Memorial Day Weekend ceremony on May 23. However, the couple called off their nuptials less than a week before the event.

Palin took to her blog to discuss this “difficult time” with her dedicated fans. The 24-year-old addressed her and Meyer’s decision to forego their nuptials, saying she knew God had other plans for her. She asked that her fans continue to pray for her and thanked them for their “love and support.” Despite going through this “painful time” she assured readers she and 6-year-old son Tripp would be just fine.

“I’m sure you’ve seen this has been all over the media, but this is a painful time for family and friends and I would just really appreciate your prayers,” she wrote. “I know God’s plan is greater than anything else, and Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated.”

Multiple sites reported that Meyer withholding information caused the wedding’s cancellation. It was reported that the 26-year-old was hiding his 2008 marriage to Cassandra Wain from his bride-to-be. Bristol and her mother, former Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin, released a joint statement on what they called “salacious headlines,” claiming that those rumors were completely false.

“Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency,” the statement read.

Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer got engaged in March 2015. The military veteran popped the question during a Rascal Flatts concert in Las Vegas. The couple began dating in 2014 after meeting in her home state of Alaska. Meyer was in his former fiancée’s home state to shoot an episode of “Amazing America,” according to Us Weekly. Prior to dating Meyer, Bristol was engaged to her son Tripp's father, Levi Johnston. The two split in 2010.
