Bruno Mars recently donated $1 million to Flint, Michigan, to help aid victims of the ongoing water crisis.

Over the weekend, Mars and Live Nation, the promoter of the singer’s “24K Magic” world tour, announced that the proceeds from his Detroit-area concerts has been given to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint (CFGF). Following the announcement, Mars released a statement expressing his gratitude to his audience and fans in Michigan.

“I’m very thankful to the Michigan audience for joining me in supporting this cause. Ongoing challenges remain years later for Flint residents, and it’s important that we don’t forget our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster. As people, especially as Americans, we need to stand together to make sure something like this never happens in any community ever again,” he said.

The water crisis in Michigan started in 2014. The Community Foundation of Greater Flint deals with issues stemming from the switch in water system.

CFGF president and CEO Isaiah M. Oliver also released a statement, according to Rolling Stone, thanking Mars for his generous help. “Beyond water, there is a big need to help all those affected, especially children, who will need assistance for the rest of their lives to help remediate the effects of the exposure to lead. With a grateful heart, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint is honored to accept this inspiring donation. We know Bruno Mars’ $1 million gift will be transformative to the children and families of Flint. He understands the issues faced by Flint citizens, and we are touched by his concern and generosity,” he said.

Other musicians who have also donated for the same cause include Big Sean, Pearl Jam, Meek Mill and Cher.

Meanwhile, Mars recently released the official music video for “Versace on the Floor” starring Zendaya. According to E! News, the former Disney Channel star is “a perfect match for Bruno’s latest endeavor” since she’s a self-confessed Mars fan. In May, she performed “24K Magic” on “Lip Sync Battle” and competed against her “Spider-Man: Homecoming” co-star Tom Holland.
