  • South Korea will launch its first lunar mission on Aug. 1
  • “Dynamite” will be transmitted from the moon to the planet
  • Experts will test a space wireless internet connection using the BTS track

BTS’ megahit “Dynamite” is set to become the first song to be transmitted from lunar orbit through an experimental wireless space internet service as part of South Korea’s space program.

The nation’s first lunar orbiter, the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) scheduled to be launched into space on Aug. 1 through a rocket manufactured by Elon Musk's SpaceX, was developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

The lunar orbiter will orbit the moon for one year carrying various South Korean experiments and one U.S.-built instrument, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The objectives of the space launch are “ to develop indigenous lunar exploration technologies, demonstrate a 'space internet' and conduct scientific investigations of the lunar environment, topography, and resources, as well as identify potential landing sites for future mission,” NASA said.

The KPLO will test the possibility of having a space internet through equipment developed by South Korea’s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).

Through KPLO, experts will find out whether a space wireless internet connection could connect satellites or exploration robots on the moon. To ease the delay of data transmission between the earth and the moon, ETRI developed a technology that facilitates the exchange of interplanetary signals. “Dynamite” will be transmitted from the moon to the planet to check whether the technology is working properly.

Fans, famously known as ARMY, took to Twitter to praise the group for yet another historic first.

“BTS universe domination,” a fan wrote.

“This world being too small for bangtan, we are gonna get streams from the Moon,” another quipped.

One fan hilariously anticipated competing with space creatures for concert tickets, “Now we've got to compete with aliens for concert tickets too.”

"Dynamite" was the first all-English song released by the Bangtan Boys in August 2020 and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 the following month. It is the first song by a South Korean musical act to reach the summit on the said chart. Before its release, Psy’s “Gangnam Style” reached No. 2. “Dynamite” stayed on Billboard’s top 100 for 32 consecutive weeks.
