Calphalon has recalled more than two million knives after thousands of people notified the company with complaints of faulty blades on its Contemporary Cutlery knives. The voluntary recall was due to laceration hazards after discovering blades were breaking from the handle during use and had even caused injuries, Calphalon said in a statement Thursday.

Thirteen of the Contemporary Cutlery models sold between August 2008 and December 2016 were affected by the recall including carving, paring, utility and santoku knives with the following model numbers: 1808008, 1808009, 1821332, 1922890, 1922971, 1922976, 1932810, KNR0005C, KNR0007C, KNR10045C, KNR4008C, KNSR002C, and KNSR0102C. The Calphalon name and logo is embossed on each blade.

People who may have knives included in the recall must order a return kit, after which the company said it would send a safe box, prepaid shipping label, instructions and other information on how to return the defective knives. The return kit with the affected knives must been sent off back to the company within one to two weeks of ordering the return kit.

Once Calphalon receives defected knives, the company said it will issue replacement cutlery sets, which could take between four to six weeks for processing and mailing. Calphalon is not issuing monetary refunds for the knives.

So far, the company said it has received about 3,150 reports of defective knives, 27 of which led to injuries. Of those injured, four people required stitches, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement.

Two million individual knives affected by the recall were sold in the U.S. while about 7,100 individual knives were sold in Canada. Knives could have been sold at retailers including J.C. Penny, Macy’s, Khol’s, various kitchen outfitters across the states and several online outlets including Amazon.
