Cardinal Health Inc. reported on Monday the recall of 60,000 bottles of mouthwash contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia bacteria.

The mouthwash was distributed to more than 900 hospitals, medical centers and long-term care facilities and the company stated the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the product was linked to hospital illnesses in one state which wasn't identified.

According to reports eight patients became ill and six of them developed pneumonia. The product is not on sale in retail stores, is made by Hydrox Inc and labeled with the Cardinal Health brand name.

Shares of Cardinal Health Inc. closed at $55.64 or 0.42 percent up on Monday trading at the New York Stock Exchange.
