Chaz Bono Role in 'Dancing With the Stars' Stirs Controversy

The addition of Chaz Bono in the Season 13 cast of Dancing With the Stars has unleashed a flood of negative reactions on social networks.

Many fans have accused the series of pushing a homosexual agenda with contestants such as the transgender Bono.

Bono was born female and was named Chastity by parents Cher and Sonny Bono. After undergoing a female-to-male transition, he legally changed his gender and name in 2010.

Bono is paired with fifth-year pro Lacey Schwimmer, who competed on So You Think You Can Dance.

Others have come to Bono's defense, praising him for bravery.

Bono is the subject of the Emmy-nominated documentary, Becoming Chaz. He has also written three books about his struggle to match his gender identity with his physical body.

The new edition of Dancing With the Stars starts Sept. 19.
