In an entertaining first half, home side Chelsea lead Rubin Kazan in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals at Stamford Bridge, 2-1.

Fernando Torres got the scoring started in the 16th minute when the Spanish striker slid on the pitch after collecting a long ball from David Luiz near the goal line.

The Blues doubled their lead with a Victor Moses strike in the 32nd minute. The Rubin Kazan backline failed to clear the ball with Chelsea pressuring to set up the Nigerian, who ripped the ball from distance.

In the 41st minute, John Terry received a yellow card for a hand ball in the penalty box. Bebars Natcho drilled home the penalty kick to cut the Chelsea lead in half.

Chelsea have had possession for 56 percent of the match. The Blues took six shots, with three on goal, while Rubin Kazan took seven shots with three on target.
