Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) was certainly never the first person to be coached by Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). When NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” returns in 2017, the series will introduce one of Voight’s former protégés.

“Revenge” actor Nick Wechsler plays Kenny Rixton, a police officer that previously worked under Voight on the gang unit. Entertainment Weekly shared the first two photos of Wechsler posing as Kenny in the intelligence unit of Chicago’s police department. The publication reports that Kenny will join the team when Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) goes undercover.

It won’t be easy for Kenny to work cases in intelligence in his first week. His first case involves a young woman’s murder. Her death is similar to some other deaths that occurred recently in the Windy City. Which means, Kenny and Voight have to take down a serial killer.

Wechsler will first appear in the police procedural in Season 4, episode 10. Titled “Don’t Read The News,” it will premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

Wechsler likely joined “Chicago P.D.” in order to fill the void left by Jon Seda, who played Antonio Dawson. Seda will now be seen in another Dick Wolf created show, “Chicago Justice.” Additionally, Patrol Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) was finally promoted to the intelligence unit in the wake of Dawson’s departure. In the Season 4 fall finale, Voight offered her her dream job which she promptly accepted.

However, while Burgess may be a competent officer, her training in intelligence is going to be less than rosy. For starters, she will be assigned a supervisor. It isn’t clear who this supervisor will be. Some fans hope it is Ruzek, since the two were engaged at one point of time. Speculation also suggests that it could be Lindsay.

“Chicago P.D.” Season 4 returns on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC with a crossover episode with “Chicago Justice.”
