Things are going to heat up for Officer Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) when NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” returns with new episodes in 2017.

Ruzek’s ex-fiancée, Patrol Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), finally got a promotion to the Intelligence Unit after a vacancy opened up. With Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) leaving the team and taking a new job as lead investigator, Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) had a spot for someone in his team, and he offered it to none other than the hardworking Patrol Officer.

How will Ruzek react to this news?

According to the executive producer of “Chicago P.D.,” Matt Olmstead, the Officer’s knee-jerk response to seeing her getting promoted will affect his career. He told TVLine, “Physically seeing [Burgess] up there [is] too much for him.” Hence, Ruzek enlists for an undercover operation, wrongly thinking that he has a permanent place in Intelligence. He thinks that he can leave it and go back whenever he wants to. But that’s not what Voight thinks and it certainly isn’t how he operates.

Furthermore, when Burgess works on her first case in Voight’s team, she will be partnered with Detective Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas). He will be extremely excited with being her new partner.

“Chicago P.D.” Season 4 will not only feature a major storyline for Ruzek, but also for Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush). She will meet her absentee father Jimmy Sanguinetti (Tony Crane) and discover some things that she knew about him aren’t true. For example, Jimmy wasn’t in prison for the last ten years. He was a free man with wife and kids. Needless to say, Lindsay will lean on her boyfriend Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) for support during this difficult time.
