“Chicago P.D.” Season 4 returns with a crossover episode with “Chicago Fire” on Jan. 3. Parrish Lewis/NBC

NBC TV series “Chicago P.D.” will be back in 2017. The Season 4 fall finale saw Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) leave the Intelligence Unit and become the Lead Investigator for the State Attorney’s Office. Meanwhile, Patrol Officer Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) was finally promoted to the Intelligence Unit. She joined Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) team at the end of episode 8.

What will happen once the show returns?

According to the synopsis of Season 4, episode 9, titled “Don’t Bury The Case,” firefighter Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is going to be in some serious trouble. He is brought to the police department for questioning on a vehicular manslaughter case. His car caused a deadly crash. Which means, the handsome firefighter will be charged for the crime unless Voight’s team can prove his innocence.

As the investigation progresses, the team uncovers a group of car-jackers who may hold the key in proving Severide’s innocence.

Episode 9 will also see Voight pairing Burgess with Detective Olinsky (Elias Koteas). It seems that he will be her new supervisor while she learns the ropes in Intelligence. Olinsky will also be extremely excited in being her new partner.

Although Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) will be working on the case of the week, she will also consider meeting her estranged father who just got released from prison. As we reported earlier, Lindsay will meet her father Jimmy Sanguinetti (Tony Crane). She will realize that some things she knew about her absentee father aren’t true.

During this difficult time, Lindsay will lean on her live-in boyfriend Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) for support. Their relationship will strengthen in Season 4.

“Chicago P.D.” returns with Season 4, episode 9 on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC. It is a crossover episode with “Chicago Fire.”
