China raised the death toll from the bloody riot in Urumqi on July 5 to 192, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday, citing a local official in Xinjiang.

The death toll from the July 5 riots in Urumqi had risen to 192 from the original 156, the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions said on Tuesday. The death toll may still climb up as many of the injured are in critical situation.

The riot also injured 1721 people besides the reported deaths, with 900 people discharged from hospital after recovery and 881 still under residential treatment. According to Xinhua, 179 of those under treatment are seriously injured and 66 are in critical situation.

The July 5 riot caused heavy economic losses as 331 stores and 627 automobile were smashed or burned, according to Xinhua. The detailed number of total economic losses is not released yet.
