RadioShack Teammates Chris Horner and Levi Leipheimer crashed with 40 km to go, ceding precious GC time, while HTC's Mark Cavendish, who won the stage in text book fashion on Stage 7 of the Tour de France.

Horner, Leipheimer, and Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins were involved with a huge crash that resulted in a concussion for Horner and a broken collarbone for Wiggins. Wiggins is out of the race, while Horner was taken immediately to a hospital after finishing.

Mark Cavendish's team took control of the race over the final kilometers and his lead out train led him to victory over Alessandro Petacchi and Andre Greipel.

Thor Hushovd of Team Garmin maintained the overall lead in the Tour de France, finishing in the same group as Cavendish.
