Christie Brinkley has slammed a New York Post’s story claiming that she split with her boyfriend John Mellencamp over his “hellbent political opinions and redneck ways.” The 62-year-old supermodel addressed the tabloid report via Instagram on Thursday, denying that she and the singer-songwriter went their separate ways due to opposing political beliefs.

"While much has been written over the years about me that I simply allow to roll off my back... I do stand up for my friends when things seem unfair and this is the case here," Brinkley wrote in her lengthy social media post.

Brinkley — who had a recurring role on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation — noted that the "convoluted" report suggested that "John is against progressive Democratic politics and somehow sounds like a Trump fan,” which is definitely not the case.

“John and I are actually both patriotic Americans who do our fair share of working to bring Americans together. John, primarily through his work with Farm Aid and through his music, which by the way, he just gave Hillary Clinton his song for her campaign ‘Our Country,’” Brinkley explained. “I [on the other hand] was a delegate from the 1st congressional district of NY for Al Gore and have been on the campaign trails speaking out on behalf of our environmental health and nuclear disarmament.”

She continued: “We both believe that we stand a better chance of overcoming the problems America faces when Americans of every race religion ethnicity, gender, black lives, blue lives, come together in mutual respect and love, and that's why we are both voting for Hillary.”

Brinkley then reiterated that she and Mellencamp, 64, split due to distance. “As to the problem John and I faced it's just mileage,” she wrote. “Pure and simple. Not that exciting or salacious.”

A rep for the pair revealed to People on Tuesday, Aug. 9, that the two had broken up after a year of dating. "Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship," the rep said in a statement. "They vowed to remain best of friends.”

Prior to her relationship with Mellencamp, Brinkley was married to French artist Jean-François Allaux (1973-1981), musician Billy Joel (1985-1994), real estate developer Richard Taubman (1994-1995) and to architect Peter Halsey Cook (1996-2008).

For his part, Mellencamp was previously married to Priscilla Esterline (1970-1981), Victoria Granucci (1981-1989), and to former model Elaine Irwin (1992-2011).
