Christopher Meloni of Law & Order and Special Victims Units fame, who exited the show recently after a decade long association, is all set to play a major role in the Superman reboot, Man Of Steel, reports Deadline.com.

The Warner Bros movie is to be directed by ZacK Snyder.

Speculations are already on that he may play a villain in the film. Meloni himself confirmed in an interview to New York Magazine that he won't be playing Lex Luthor, as was rumored, but wouldn't reveal more details. It is believed that he may play Clark Kent’s boss, Perry White, said the Daily Planet newspaper.

The movie already boasts of an A rated cast heavy with such bigwigs as Henry Cavill, who plays Superman, Kevin Costner, Russel Crowe, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Julia Ormond and Michael Shannon.

The movie is set for release in 2012.

Talking of the 12 years he spent on SVU, Meloni said, in the same interview I feel very blessed to have been a part of it....I loved the people, every person. I loved going to work. And yet with all that, we did the best we could to try to make things work for everyone, and in the end it was just better for me to keep moving and I have no regrets.
