Claws Title Card
“Claws” producers reportedly filed paperwork in Louisiana to film the show’s potential Season 2 there. TNT

“Claws” still has eight episodes left for the remainder of its freshman run, but series star Evan Daigle revealed that people involved in TNT’s new crime dramedy have already started talking about a potential Season 2.

In a recent interview with Bradenton Herald, Daigle — who plays the role of Toby on the series — said that the show’s producers recently filed paperwork in Louisiana to film a second season there. But the young actor made it clear that certain paperwork doesn’t necessarily mean a second season is set in stone. “From what I understand, producers will sometimes file the paperwork so that they can get the tax write-off,” Daigle explained. “So there’s no official word yet, but all signs are good.”

“Claws” series premiere drew decent numbers with a 0.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 1.18 million viewers. Its Season 1, episode 2, on the other hand, also drew a 0.4 rating in the demo and averaged 1.20 million viewers. Since the number of viewers didn’t drop from week one to week two, it seems that people who watched the premiere are sticking with it.

Daigle’s Toby is the boyfriend of Dean Norris’ character, Clay, a.k.a. Uncle Daddy. Daigle revealed that Toby was “supposed to be a one-time co-starring role” but the producers, writers and showrunners decided to make it a regular character. While Toby didn’t have much screen time in the first two episodes of the series, Daigle said that very soon Toby will assume a much more central role.

Daigle added that Polly (Carrie Preston), Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes) and Desna’s (Niecy Nash) brother, Dean (Harold Perrineau), will also be more integrated into the story very soon. “The writers have found a way to bring these characters into the story arc that’s quite brilliant,” he said.

According to the synopsis for this week’s Season 1, episode 3, Virginia’s (Karrueche Tran) lies deepen as Desna tries to cover their tracks following Roller’s (Jack Kesy) murder. Desna and Bryce (Kevin Rankin) also find themselves in danger of Uncle Daddy’s wrath when something goes awry at the clinic. Amid all the chaos, Desna is still determined to get her dream salon even after failing the “secret shopper” test last episode.

“Claws” Season 1, episode 3 airs on Sunday, June 25 at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
