UPDATE 3:57 p.m. EDT: Police are telling the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the shooter and victim knew each other.
“It seems to be that a female and a male had some type of confrontation in the parking lot,” Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce told the paper. The woman, whose name was not publicly released, was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Police said a number of shots were fired in the incident and that the shooter also opened fire on a bystander, who was uninjured.
Pierce said authorites have the license plate of the van that the shooter fled in, but it's unclear whether he was the driver of the vehicle. He described the suspect as a black man in his 50s and heavyset. The suspect was last seen wearing a grey shirt, glasses and a blue hat.
Police are investigating a shooting Monday afternoon in the parking lot of the Cumberland Mall near Atlanta.
The Atlanta CBS affiliate said one person was reportedly shot in the parking lot near Macy’s. Police told WGCL that a man shot a woman in the parking lot before fleeing in a white van.
The Cobb County Police Department is trying to secure the area where the shooting reportedly occurred, the Associated Press reported.
There was no immediate information on the shooter or victim or if there were any injuries from the shooting.
