The dance floor was on fire Monday night with sizzling hot routines during the highly anticipated “Dancing With the Stars” semifinals. But unfortunately for two Season 22 couples from the hit ABC, their flames were extinguished during Week 9’s dreaded double elimination.

“This is not my favorite part of my show — this is tough,” the show’s co-host Tom Bergeron said before revealing which dancing duos would be getting the ballroom boot. “Look at those five couples … I mean, come on, could you make a case for any two of them going home?”

The first couple to be called safe from elimination was Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy, who earned a 27 out of 30 for their trio dance and a 29 out of 30 for the quickstep. The couple was overwhelmed with joy as Tom revealed they were heading to the finals.

The next team to be called safe from getting sent home was Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd. We can’t imagine what tasty treat these two will cook up for finale routine — especially considering the duo went all out for their semifinal performance, which earned a perfect score! Peta blindfolded her deaf partner during their emotional Argentine tango, redefining what it is to dance.

The last couple Tom announced safe during Week 9’s shocking elimination was Team Pow, Right In The Kisser! Paige VanZant, who recieved a perfect score for her fiesty trio routine and a 29 out of 30 for her sensual tango with Mark Ballas, was overjoyed with happiness at the thought of performing in the finale. Even though three couples were made happy during Week 9, the dreams of two Mirror Ball-winning hopefuls were crushed when Lindsay Arnold and Wanya Morris as well as Antonio Brown and Sharna Burgess were eliminated. The decision stemmed from the judges’ Week 8 scores and the votes the couples received from fans.

Although the show concluded before Team Boomin and Team BlondeZee could share their final thoughts, the two were seen taking their final bows in the ballroom with big smiles.
