Wall Street opened lower on Friday after worse-than-expected quarterly results from computer maker Dell and homebuilder D.R. Horton underscored that the road to recovery would not be smooth.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 29.62 points, or 0.29 percent, at 10,302.82. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 4.49 points, or 0.41 percent, at 1,090.41. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 13.32 points, or 0.62 percent, at 2,143.50.
