Candy is interested in knowing more about porn-making in Season 1, episode 3 of “The Deuce.”

According to the synopsis for the next episode of the HBO series, Candy (Maggie Gyllenhaal) looks for a way into the filmmaking business.

In the trailer for the episode, Candy tells a guy over breakfast that she wants to “learn how to make movies.” It’s unclear what the guy’s profession is, but he’s seen seemingly supervising the filming of a sex scene at some point in the promo clip. Does Candy want to be like him?

Candy started to have interest in porn-making when she filled in for a friend in a pornographic short in Season 1, episode 2. In fact, after getting her payment for the job, Candy stayed for a few more minutes at the place where they filmed the short and asked some questions about the different equipment used in making the movie.

Elsewhere in episode 3, Vincent (James Franco) is blindsided by an unexpected partner after putting the finishing touches on his new bar, Hi-Hat. While it’s unclear who this new partner is, it seems that this mystery character has history with Frankie (also played by Franco), as the episode logline suggests that the introduction of this partner causes Vincent’s twin brother to lose his temper.

Hi-Hat also opens in the episode, and Vincent gets help from a menacing drifter during the bar’s first night of operation. In the trailer for the episode, the drifter quickly confiscates a gun from a customer who’s about to shoot someone.

Meanwhile, Darlene (Dominique Fishback) works overtime to compensate her pimp Larry (Gbenga Akinnagbe). Larry, however, isn’t thrilled with Darlene working for extra hours. “I waited here until four in the morning!” a furious Larry shouts at Darlene when she comes back to their meeting place.

Also in the upcoming episode, Rudy (Michael Rispoli) buys into a rival’s plan to reconfigure The Deuce with the support of an ambitious mayor; and Bobby (Chris Bauer) pays a price for his recent stress at work.

“The Deuce” Season 1, episode 3, titled “The Principle Is All,” airs on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
