Following the success of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Disney is jumping in on the battle of the bands by launching Ultimate Band, a new music-based game for the Nintendo Wii and DS.

The game will be developed by Fall Line Studio, is a family-friendly, full-band game that allows players to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk or the stylus on DS to play lead guitar, bass guitar, or drums. Disney said there won't be any plastic instruments included, leaving critics speculating how the wii remote will be turned into a remote or other instrument.

Ultimate Band invites kids, tweens and teens to join in the jam session, said Craig Relyea, senior vice president, global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios.

And whether they choose guitar, drums, bass or front man, members don't need to buy costly, single-function peripherals to play their way through Ultimate Band's deep song list, dynamic venues, and customizable characters. The Wii Remote and DS stylus are the only tools they'll need to reach rock stardom in Ultimate Band.

The DS version also has a built-in recording studio that will allow users to record parts from each instrument and then edit them together with creative mixing effects. The game will also use the Disney DGamer system for Wi-Fi for ad hoc online play and interaction.

Ultimate Band will include a song selection of classic rock to current hit singles that covers rock, alternative, popular, emo and indie rock music. Specific songs were not announced.

The game will be available this holiday season for the Wii and the Nintendo DS.
