The dollar shed gains against the yen on Friday after data showed a surprise decline in U.S. retail sales in May, sparking concern about the strength of the U.S. economic recovery.

The dollar fell to 91.35 yen JPY=, little changed from late Thursday and down from 91.65 yen before the data. The euro also surrendered gains to trade flat at $1.2103 EUR= compared to $1.2125 before the report.
