U.S. stocks extended losses on Friday, dragging the Dow industrials and the S&P 500 down more than 1 percent on losses in the industrial and energy sectors.

Crude oil futures briefly fell below $80 per barrel, while the U.S. dollar strengthened against a basket of currencies <.DXY>.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 95.15 points, or 0.94 percent, to 9,986.16. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 11.60 points, or 1.06 percent, to 1,081.31. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 6.74 points, or 0.31 percent, to 2,158.55.
