Dow, S&P 500 open up on data optimism
The Dow industrials and S&P 500 opened higher on Monday, as investors anticipated an improved domestic manufacturing sector in October alongside improved global manufacturing.
But the Nasdaq turned negative after brief gains, dragged down by big index movers Intel Corp
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 34.54 points, or 0.36 percent, at 9,747.27. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 4.59 points, or 0.44 percent, at 1,040.78. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 2.48 points, or 0.12 percent, at 2,042.63.
