The Dow and S&P 500 indexes opened lower on Tuesday as Johnson & Johnson's third-quarter sales figures disappointed investors, offsetting a lift from higher commodity prices that rose with the weaker U.S. dollar.

But the Nasdaq index rose at the open, helped by Cisco Systems Inc and Intel Corp .

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 19.20 points, or 0.19 percent, at 9,866.60. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 2.28 points, or 0.21 percent, to 1,073.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> rose 5.10 points, or 0.24 percent, at 2,144.24. (Reporting by Angela Moon; Editing by Padraic Cassidy)
