The Dow and S&P 500 fell to session lows on Friday, weighed by weak energy shares as crude oil extended declines to near $69 a barrel.

The Nasdaq remained in positive territory, boosted by Microsoft Corp after Goldman Sachs added shares of the world's largest software company to its Americas conviction buy list.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 47.84 points, or 0.56 percent, to 8,507.76. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> slipped 1.26 points, or 0.14 percent, at 917.11. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> rose 11.61 points, or 0.64 percent, at 1,819.33.
