Edith (Laura Carmichael) considers moving to London in two "Downton Abbey" Season 6 promo videos. Nick Briggs/Carnival Film & Television Limited 2015 for Masterpiece

“Downton Abbey” isn’t over yet. Two new promo videos have been released for Season 6 of the British import, and they suggest plenty of upcoming drama for the upstairs and downstairs residents. Both trailers hint at the end of an era for the characters.

The downstairs staff face new changes in the first video. “I just want to be his friend,” Barrow (Rob James-Collier) tells Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan). However, Barrow doesn’t have many friends on the PBS drama. Has he finally found a love interest? Or is this the beginning of a deceitful plan?

He may want to befriend Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) or Robert (Hugh Bonneville) because his job could be in danger. “Who has an underbutler these days?” Robert asks. Carson wants to stick to tradition, even with his new fiancée.

Though Mr. Carson asked Mrs. Hughes to marry him last season, they still need to take some big steps together, like using their first names. “You don’t think maybe you should start calling me Elsie?” Mrs. Hughes asks.

“Not here,” Mr. Carson says, as if the idea is absurd. “Not while we’re working.”

The upstairs residents of “Downton” are going through their own big changes. It looks like Isobel (Penelope Wilton) will try to use her power to help the hospital, but Violet (Maggie Smith) isn’t pleased about it. “So you want to protect your power at the expense of the patients, I want to protect the patients at the expense of my power,” Isobel says.

Elsewhere, Edith (Laura Carmichael) seems to be looking for a new start in the final season. “Edith, alone on the town,” Mary (Michelle Dockery) says dryly. “What will she get up to?”

While Mary sounds bored, Edith looks to have some exciting plans. She is considering moving to London fulltime. When Rosamund (Samantha Bond) asks her if she’d like a life in London, Edith replies, “The fact is, I’d like a life.”

In another British promo video, Rosamund pressures Edith to make a choice. “The question remains: what is your future?” Rosamund asks. Edith is then shown smiling at a gentleman. Could this be a hint that she’ll find love?

Isobel also seems to be pushing Violet’s buttons again when she takes her to the kitchens. “I haven’t been into the kitchens for 20 years,” the Dowager Countess says.

“Have you got your passport?” Isobel quips.
