Drake might be having a good year, but his luck did not rub off on rumored girlfriend Serena Williams. On Friday the 33-year-old tennis star went up against unseeded Italian player Roberta Vinci in the U.S. Open semifinals. Williams lost in the third set to Vinci in one of the most stunning upsets in tennis history.

Williams was on a 33-match win streak heading into the semifinals at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York. The game was initially delayed due to the heavy rains Thursday night. The No. 1-seeded player was expected to win against Vinci, inching closer to the U.S. Open title and “Grand Slam.” For those unfamiliar with a “Grand Slam” in tennis, it’s when an athlete wins the four biggest tournaments of the year – the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. The last tennis star to have the Grand Slam title was Steffi Graf in 1998, according to the Associated Press. Only five players have ever won all four tournaments in a single year.

NPR reports that Williams immediately left the court following the match, and TMZ is linking her loss to her rumored beau. According to the gossip site, this was Serena Williams’ first U.S. Open match that Drake attended. While some may now consider him a “bad luck charm,” the site also notes that he did attend one of her winning Wimbledon matches.
