Bungie Studios unveiled a new gameplay experience trailer on Wednesday for its upcoming first-person shooter, "Destiny." Bungie

With the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo well under way, Bungie released a new 7-minute gameplay experience trailer on Wednesday for its upcoming action roleplaying first-person shooter, “Destiny.”

Bungie Studios co-founder Jason Jones takes viewers of the trailer through the gameplay world of “Destiny,” the abandoned ruins of a human civilization ravaged and overtaken by galactic enemies.

In the center of that world is the last safe city on earth, where players return after each mission to collect rewards, buy and sell weapons and gear as well as interact with friends.

Merging first-person shooter game aspects with role-playing game (RPG) levels of customization, players of “Destiny” are able to bring about their character’s looks to fit their personality. Characters can also be tailored to individual play styles with different weapons, armor and unlocked skill traits.

Another “Destiny” feature introduced in the trailer is the Director, a mission navigation window that provides players with missions to complete, along with potential rewards for completing that mission.

In addition to the number of smaller missions available in “Destiny,” a large number of players can also participate in public events to take down larger enemies. This particular mechanic borrows elements from massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG), which often host large shared missions between its players.

Of course, customizing a character in “Destiny” wouldn’t be complete if you couldn’t test it out in a fight against other players. Should players want that experience, they can take their characters into the Crucible, an online arena for competitive multiplayer matches.

“Destiny” is set to launch this fall on Sept. 9 for the Sony Corp.’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4, PS3, Microsoft Corp.’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One and Xbox 360.
