While Apple has remained silent on the iPad 2's sales numbers, online retailer eBay has not.

eBay says that nearly 12,000 iPads were sold via its service between the device's American and international launches. Of the thousands of iPads sold, 65% went to other people living the United States. In comparison, 35% of the original iPads sold via eBay were sold domestically.

The majority of exported iPads went to Russia and Canada, which combined nabbed 930 of the devices. Japanese consumers also made up a significant portion of sales, purchasing 353 of the devices. That's significant in light of Apple's decision to postpone the iPad 2's launch in Japan, which was scheduled for March 25. Apple delayed the iPad's Japanese launch after the country was hit with a magnitude 9.0 earthquake on March 11.

We are delaying the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan while the country and our teams focus on recovering from the recent disaster, Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said. Apple has not announced an updated release date for the country.

The most popular model of the iPad 2, eBay says, was the 16GB Wi-Fi version, which made up 30% of sales. The 16 GB version was the least popular, accounting for 7% of sales.
