The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released on Nov. 11 and is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series. The player’s main goal is to try and defeat Alduin, the firstborn of Tamriel's primary deity, Akatosh. The game is set two hundred years after the events of the earlier game in the series, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

The game, however, has a few difficult areas which can be disheartening at times. Here are the top 10 FAQs that have been directly answered by the developers.

Question 1: “Show on Map” functionality is causing the player to become stuck when loading. Why is this happening?

Answer: If the player is using the “Show on Map” feature in the quest log to fast travel while they are in a special animation, such as mounting a carriage or sitting in a chair, it may cause the player to be stuck with their controls locked, upon loading into the new area. To resolve this issue, the player will need to load a save prior to fast traveling and wait for the animation to finish playing before fast traveling.

Question 2: After a character's marriage, why doesn’t the player receive gold for selling items to their spouse and why do items sold disappear?

Answer: Note that some NPC (Non-Playable Character) spouses will open a shop after they marry the player. If, however, these NPCs join the player as a follower, the player can still gain access to the vendor functionality. When the player tries to sell items to their spouse at this time, no gold is provided for items sold and the items will disappear instead of showing up in the NPCs vendor inventory. The player can avoid this by not using the spouse’s vendor functionality when they are a follower.

Question 3: Why do weapons placed on weapon racks sometimes remain floating in mid-air or even disappear?

Answer: Check if the weapon is properly placed on the weapons rack. If it is seen floating or is seen to move off the rack, it is better to take it off the rack rather than risk it disappearing.

Question 4: After interrupting the Civil War with the Peace Treaty and completing the Main Quest, the player no longer has Quest Targets to resume the Civil War. What can be done about this?

Answer: The player can return to General Tullius in Solitude or Jarl Ulfric in Windhelm and speak with them to get a reminder on the status of the Civil War and resume their campaign.

Question 5: During the quest “The Forsworn Conspiracy”, why do the NPCs follow the player?

Answer: This happens when the player chooses to pickpocket Dryson instead of talking to him after the brawl. To fix this problem, the player will have to re-load a save prior to pickpocketing Dryson and talk to Dryson at the end of the brawl instead of pickpocketing him.

Question 6: During the quest “Waking Nightmare” why can’t the player drink Vaermina`s Potion?

Answer: If the player is not able to drink Vaermina`s Potion when instructed then they will need to reload an earlier save and try again.

Question 7: How to clear the 360's cache?

Answer: Follow the steps to clear the cache –

A.Power on the Xbox and from the Dashboard select ‘My Xbox’

B.Select ‘System Settings’

C.Select ‘Memory’

D.Highlight the ‘Hard Drive’ entry, and press ‘Y’

E.Select ‘Clear System Cache’

However, note that once this has completed, the game will cache again when it is next loaded and any Title Updates which were downloaded will need to be downloaded again.

Question 8: Player is unable to Save or Load due to the options being grayed out. What can be done about this?

Answer: If the player accesses the Pause Menu while the game is autosaving, the Save and Load options will be grayed out and become inaccessible. Once the game finishes the autosave, these options will light up and be available again.

Question 9: In Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, why don’t the followers enter the sanctuary along with the player? (Question valid for all platforms)

Answer: If the player has a follower and enters the sanctuary, the follower will not enter with them. This is as per the game’s development and the follower will be waiting for the player outside of the sanctuary, and will resume following once the player is back outside.

Question 10: In the quest “Diplomatic Immunity,” Malborn is not showing up at the Thalmor Embassy and the quest cannot progress. What can be done about this?

Answer: It is possible that during the quest, the NPC that’s supposed to help the player do not show up at the Embassy. To avoid this, load a save prior to the player getting in the cart to go to the Embassy and progress from there.
