An unnamed elderly woman in Arkansas reportedly shot a 19-year-old home intruder early Sunday morning. Cody Smith, who forcibly entered the home, was killed during the incident.

According to the Crittenden County Sheriff's Department, an ADT security alarm went off at 3:31 a.m. Sunday at the woman’s house in Marion, Arkansas, CBS-affiliate WREG reported.

The alarm company alerted police officers, who went to the woman’s home. The woman, who lives alone and is in her late eighties, told police that she asked Smith to leave. He reportedly advanced toward her, and the woman said she shot him in self-defense.

“Of course it makes you be a little more concerned about your neighborhood if have people that are breaking into homes,” said John Rimmer, a neighbor, to WREG. “We heard he was under the influence of something and wrecked his car. At first, it was told that he thought he was walking to his house. I didn't know where his house is, in this neighborhood I assume.”

Police are investigating the incident.
