Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) might be getting out of jail on "Empire," Season 2, episode 3, "Fires of Heaven," but one of his sons wants nothing more than to steal the spotlight. Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) will drop a brand new song, "Bout 2 Blow," featuring Timbaland on Wednesday night's episode.

Rapper Timbaland has served as executive music producer on "Empire" since the show started, but Wednesday night he'll make his first on-screen appearance in episode 3 when the two perform the new rap song. He worked alongside Gray in the studio and provided the beat to the verses.

Gray, 21, wrote the song and recorded it with Timbaland early in the morning following a filming session, according to Billboard. "The process was, I was filming for about 18 hours and Timbaland was the studio, making the record. Once I was done filming about 2 o'clock in the morning, I went to the studio and we created a record. Timbaland is so creative -- he just laid the beat down and made it easy for me to go in."

Along with co-star Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon), Gray writes music for the show based on the storylines of the show's characters. He said it makes the characters more "describable." Smollet and Gray aren't the only two stars on the show writing music for the hip-hop drama. Last week, a new song called "Hourglass" debuted which was written by Howard and performed by singer V. Bozeman.

In episode 3, Hakeem will look to continue to grow the new "Lyon Dynasty" record label Cookie and he decided to create. Fresh off leaking his new album, Hakeem will perform a new song and also hopes to introduce his all-girl pop group, Ménage a Trois, to the world. The x-factor will be getting Valentina (Becky G) to be a part of the group.

Showrunner Ilene Chaiken dished to TVLine that Hakeem will grow and mature throughout Season 2, making for a different Hakeem than the one fan's saw throughout Season 1. "He’s aware that everyone in his family underestimates him — and he’s got a big task to prove to them that he’s worthy, that he can accomplish the things everyone thought were being handed to him on a silver platter. We’re really going to see him maturing," she said.
