Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is a free man again, at least for the moment. Armed with a new attorney, Thirsty Rawlings (Andre Royo), Lucious was able to make bail on "Empire" Season 2, but he will stay true to promises he made in prison on episode 3, "Fires of Heaven."

When Lucious had Frank Gathers (Chris Rock) killed in prison, he swore he was going to sign Gather's daughter, Freda (Bre-Z), to Empire and make money off of her talents. Lucious will try to sign her to his label in the new episode, but will she agree after the death of her father in prison? Lucious being out of jail could also finally give Jamal (Jussie Smollett) some time to get back in the studio and record new music.

The synopsis for episode 3 reveals that Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Anika (Grace Gealey) will put aside their differences and actually work side by side behind Lucious' back. The two will try to impress guest star Pitbull by pulling off a performance that will catch his eye that Lucious won't be aware of. Cookie is also going to try to get Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) back in the studio to record some more music.

Hakeem decided in episode 2 to not go back to Empire and instead make a name for himself through his and Cookie's new label they're creating. He's hoping his all-girl pop group, Ménage a Trois, will become popular and also help grow the company. The key will be getting Valentina (Becky G) on board to be a part of the group. Initially, she wasn't for the idea and hinted that she wanted to be a part of Empire.

Meanwhile, Andre (Trai Byers) and Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) could reveal to the entire family that they are having a baby, with the goal being that Lucious will hear this and let Andre return to Empire. In the promo video, Andre is shown talking to Lucious about "making a mess go away" to get back into Empire. Will Andre tell Lucious that Rhonda happened to accidentally kill Vernon (Malik Yoba), the key witness in his murder case?

Prosecutor Roxanne Ford (Tyra Ferrell) is livid Lucious made bail and she is going to stop at nothing to make sure he gets put away again. She talks to Cookie in the video asking her for help against Lucious. If Cookie doesn't help, Ford says she'll go after her sons. The FBI is also shown raiding Empire in the video.
