The Lyon family went through a difficult time in the Season 3 premiere of “Empire,” and it seems like things are still just as crazy for the hip-hop clan in episode 2. The synopsis for next week’s show was released online, teasing that the family is still trying to come terms with the events of their past.

According to the episode 2 synopsis (via TV Guide), titled “Sin That Amends,” Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is trying to turn his being shot “into something positive.” However, he is still dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. “He teams up with a businessman to talk about gun violence and host a summit for awareness,” the synopsis reads. “But when he tries to perform again, things don’t go as planned.” On the premiere of the Fox show, Jamal had a panic attack when he stepped on the stage to perform “Need Freedom.”

Also during episode 2, Lucious (Terrence Howard) will be trying to win Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) over and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) starts recording with Shine (Xzibit). Andre (Trai Byers), who lost his wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday), somehow gets in trouble with the law in the Sept. 28 episode.

During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter following the Season 3 premiere, “Empire” showrunner Ilene Chaiken teased that things will be tough for Andre going forward because Rhonda was killed. “Their identities were wrapped up in each other so this is an enormous change for him,” she said. “This is a complete resetting of his life, his function, his state of mind, his goals and there will be things that happen to him going forward and beginning with the next episode that push him even further. He has a very, very dramatic journey this season, Andre does, and the loss of Rhonda is just the beginning of it.”

Fans will also meet newcomer Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs) next week. Angelo, who’s being compared to President Barack Obama, is the businessman Jamal reaches out to. TV Line previously reported that Angelo has a Harvard law degree and comes from a wealthy family, but forgoes working in the private sector making millions of dollars to focus on local politics. Angelo could also be a new love interest for Cookie, which doesn’t sit well with Lucious.

“Empire” Season 3 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
