Mariah Carey shared a new sneak peek of her “Empire” Season 3 character, Kitty. The “Obsessed” singer will make her debut on the Fox show Wednesday in episode 3. In the preview, posted to Carey’s Twitter page, her character is seen trying to help Jamal Lyon when he finds himself struggling to sing during their recording session.

The short clip begins with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) and Kitty preparing to record their duet, “Infamous.” Before Jamal can even get a note out, he freezes up. “This is not my day,” Jamal says. Kitty tries to console Jamal telling him that “it’s good.”

Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is clearly annoyed over Jamal’s struggles to sing, and says his son can reschedule the session if he needs more time. Carey interjects saying that she doesn’t think the session should end, and tells Jamal he can do it. Jamal takes a second to get himself together, and then grabs the microphone again to sing. “I’m ready,” he says as the clip ends.

A synopsis for episode 3 teases that Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) hopes that by bringing in Kitty to work with Jamal it will help him “overcome his inability to perform.”

While some guest stars on “Empire” have storylines that span several episodes, showrunner Ilene Chaiken told Deadline last month that Carey’s role as Kitty is a one episode arc. However, the show is open to bringing the singer back for a future episode. We were looking for a musical star to play that role, and were lucky to get Mariah to play it,” Chaiken said.

Even though Carey’s appearance on “Empire” will be brief, the cast seems to have enjoyed their time working with the superstar. “It was great,” Smollett told Entertainment Weekly about filming with Carey. “She’s a sweetheart. She’s a professional and, you know, this is a long time coming.”

Fans will also meet another guest star on episode 3. “Growing Up Hip Hop” star Romeo Miller will make his debut as Gram, a rapper who becomes Tiana’s (Serayah) love interest and Hakeem’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) rival.
