"Cloud Atlas" looks to be one of the most interesting movies coming out this year. Co-directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski ("The Matrix") and Tom Tywker ("Run Lola Run"), "Cloud Atlas" tells six related stories throughout history based on David Mitchell's 2004 novel. The film received an extended five-minute trailer on Apple's trailer site Thursday.

The Apple synopsis reads, "'Cloud Atlas' explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future."

"We cross and recross our old lives like figure skaters," the trailer says, hinting at the idea of past and future lives intersecting throughout the film's timeline.

"Cloud Atlas" tells a complicated story, with Tom Hanks and Halle Berry playing a series of characters that seem destined to meet throughout time. The film explores six periods and genres: a 19th century sailing voyage, the 1930s, the crime-ridden 1970s, a dystopian present, futuristic Korea, and finally, a post-apocalyptic world that Hanks and Berry attempt to endure.

"I believe there is another world waiting for us," the narration says as the trailer ends. "A better world. And I'll be waiting for you there." Surely fans will be waiting with bated breath for the film's release.

"Cloud Atlas" stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving and Jim Broadbent and is set for release Oct. 26.
