EZTV, the hugely popular file-sharing site that's become a hub for TV shows illegally uploaded online, has had its domain name taken over by a group of “scammers,” according to one of the site's administrators. The revelation comes amid lingering issues with EZTV since the torrent site was knocked offline as part of the December raid that took down the Pirate Bay.

EZTV – like the Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, and other torrent websites – frequently changes its domain name to stay ahead of law enforcement and international copyright enforcers. The site has traditionally existed at EZTV.it only recently switching to EZTV.ch after experiencing consistency issues. Now, though, the EZTV.it domain has been hacked, with the perpetrators impersonating the popular torrent service for reasons unknown.

“Scammers got it a while ago,” an EZTV administrator identified only as Novaking revealed to the piracy news site TorrentFreak, adding that EZTV.it appears to be controlled by a domain company in Italy.

The situation became further complicated Saturday when users on Reddit and social media complained that EZTV.ch, now home to the official EZTV, has been experiencing intermittent technical difficulties. TorrentFreak reported that “the official EZTV team” is working to resolve the issues, though the confusion is symptomatic of the problems that have plagued the usually reliable site since the Pirate Bay raid proved no torrent sites are invulnerable.
