Update (11:58 PM EST): A Facebook spokersperson respoded with a statement about the outage, which appears to have been resolved. "Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused."

Update (10:09 AM EST): Users have been unable to post a Facebook status update directly from the Facebook Profile. These users have received a message that reads, "The message could not be posted to this Timeline." Users receiving this message have occasionally been able to post, so it appears that the outage is affecting every user the same.

Wonder why you haven’t heard much about the beginning of the workweek from your friends and family? A Monday-morning system outage has prevented users from updating their Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) status.

It’s unclear exactly when the issue developed, what caused it, or how many users it is affecting. IBTimes was still able to update a Facebook status directly on a user’s Facebook profile, but received a message that reads, "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes," when trying to update from the Facebook News Feed.

The outage also appears to be affecting mobile Facebook apps. IBTimes was able to make a post within the app, but the status update never appeared in a News Feed or on the user’s Facebook Timeline. It just seemed to disappear.

Facebook has not yet responded to a question about the outage. IBTimes will update this article if Facebook makes a statement.

For now, try updating your status directly on your Facebook profile. If it works, let us know in the comments.
