Las Vegas - “The Book of Henry” trailer made its grand debut during CinemaCon on Wednesday as part of Focus Features’ presentation. After star Naomi Watts and director Colin Trevorrow took the stage, the studio released the first look at the upcoming drama.

The trailer opens with Henry (Jaeden Lieberher) in class and telling a teacher he refuses to go to a gifted school. At home, Henry is shown helping his single mother Susan (Watts) pay the bills. She even tells her boss she needs to consult with her 11-year-old first before agreeing to get her checks directly deposited. Susan’s friend, played by Sarah Silverman, worries about her pal, but Susan says she’s secure in her life.

“Find me another male of the species who is more grownup than him,” she comments of her eldest son.

When shots of Henry’s schoolmate Christina Sickleman (Maddie Ziegler) appear she is shown telling Susan that her two sons are lucky to have her. Susan then remarks that her father is lucky to have her as well, but Christina seems hesitant and corrects her, calling him her “stepfather.”

“Christina is in trouble,” Henry tells his mother. When Henry accuses Christina’s father, Mr. Sickleman, of causing his schoolmate harm, he launches into action. Susan seems hesitant to accuse a police commissioner of misconduct but eventually sees Christina’s terrible fate for herself.

One scene of the trailer shows Christina sitting on the floor of a dark bedroom. Then, a light in the hallway appears and she looks on scared. The event that follows is seen by Watt’s character but not the audience. However, she looks horrified but she’s just witnessed.

The trailer ends with scenes of Christina dancing, Henry constructing a plan to save his beloved neighbor and Susan getting in on the action. “We have to make it better,” Henry says.

“The Book of Henry” debuts in theaters June 16.
