Fans are going to meet Caitlin’s (Danielle Panabaker) mom for the first time in Season 3, episode 5 of “The Flash.”

According to the synopsis for the episode, titled “Monster,” Caitlin gives her mom, Dr. Tannhauser (Susan Walters), a visit in hopes that the renowned biomedical researcher can explain her growing meta-human powers. Their reunion, however, starts to become a disaster when Dr. Tannhauser treats Caitlin like a test subject. Caitlin grows cold and brings up past misunderstandings between them causing the mother and daughter to have a major blowout.

Caitlin's mom was first mentioned in Season 2, episode 19 “Back to Normal" in which the S.T.A.R. Labs’ resident bio-engineer came face-to-face with her Earth-2 doppelganger Killer Frost, who also happens to have cold relationship with her own mom.

When Walters casting was announced last August, Entertainment Weekly reported that Caitlin and her mom have long had a difficult relationship. According to the news outlet, Caitlin finds her mom cold and withholding, while Dr. Tannhauser regards her daughter as rebellious and ungrateful.

Todd Helbing recently told Entertainment Weekly that fans are going to find out soon what exactly caused the rift between the two. “You’ve heard snippets throughout the show so far of how her mom is pretty cold,” Helbing said. “When you meet her, you’ll understand exactly what Caitlin has been talking about and exactly how their dynamic works. You can see how that’s had a long-term effect on Caitlin.”
