Grant Gustin as The Flash
“The Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that Barry (Grant Gustin) and the rest of Team Flash are “getting their first real conversation with Savitar” in Season 3, episode 9, “The Present.” The CW

Although Savitar has already appeared in two episodes of “The Flash,” Barry (Grant Gustin) and the rest of Team Flash remain clueless regarding the speedster’s ultimate objective. That, however, is going to change in the show’s midseason finale, where the team gets an opportunity to talk to the god of motion himself.

“The team is facing getting their first real conversation with Savitar and really getting a handle on what they’re up against this season,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly when asked what fans can expect from Season 3, episode 9, titled “The Present.” “They will have a greater idea of what threat Savitar is, and what they’re truly up against for this season, and how it is going to take all of them to fight it.”

Kreisberg added that the threats caused by Flashpoint are going to take a backseat starting in the winter finale to give way to a brand new problem.

“So much of the first half of the season has been about Flashpoint and the ramifications of that,” the exec producer said. “Events will occur in episode 9 that will change the direction of the show moving forward.”

In a separate interview with TVLine, Kreisberg said that the midseason finale creates a new problem for members of Team Flash that “they weren’t anticipating, something that they’ve never faced before.”

“It’s so big, we’re actually considering changing the saga sell from talking about Flashpoint to talking about that,” Kreisberg said. “Because that’s really what’s driving the episodes for the rest of the season.”

Greg Berlanti echoed Kreisberg’s statement, saying, “By the end of [the episode], there’s a whole new ticking clock that the show has.”

And since the episode happens to be the show’s Christmas episode, Berlanti said that fans can expect a “very tearful and emotional” hour.

“The Flash” Season 3 winter finale airs on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Check out the full synopsis for the episode below:

“With Alchemy (Tom Felton) and Savitar still looming threats, Barry is unable to focus on the Christmas holiday, and especially his relationship with Iris (Candice Patton). Determined to stop Savitar, Barry goes to Earth-3 to get advice from Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp). Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) wants to help Barry fight Savitar and reveals that he’s been training with H.R. (Tom Cavanagh), which doesn’t go over well with Barry. As Cisco (Carlos Valdes) faces his first Christmas without his brother Dante (Nicholas Gonzalez), old wounds are reopened.”
