A recent strain of the canine flu has been affecting dogs throughout the New York metro area. Veterinarians are recommending that dogs be given a vaccine, especially if they're in close quarters with other dogs.
While canine flu is not a fatal illness, it is highly contagious. Symptoms of the canine flu include runny nose, cough and fever, according to the NY Daily News.
