Future and Ciara may be far from through with their legal battles, but they’ve got something to celebrate in the meantime. The exes each took to Instagram on Thursday to celebrate their son’s second birthday.

Ciara, who was recently forced to concede to a shared-custody agreement, post a picture of her cradling her son in her lap. In the caption she wrote about how quickly her son, Future Zahir Wilburn, has grown up, pointing out a few of his major milestones. The “Body Party” singer added that it had “been the best life experience” to watch him grown and learn, thanking God for such a blessing. Sources told E! News that both Ciara and fiancé Russell Wilson were “spoiling baby Future” on his big day.

Baby Future’s father, for whom he is named, also shared a sweet message with his son on the photo-sharing site as well as on Twitter. The “Stick Talk” rapper tweeted a brief but loving message to his boy before posting a picture on Instagram. In the sweet snapshot, baby Future is shown standing at a piano. The BET Hip Hop Award winner called his son “gifted” and shared some hopes for the future with him.

On Tuesday, Ciara and Future faced off in court over custody. According to TMZ, Ciara went into the battle hoping to gain full custody of Future. She claimed that her ex-fiancé has been absent for most of their son’s life, calling him a bad father and bad person in general. The publication reported that despite her claims about Future’s character, California state courts tend to lean toward joint custody and the rapper and Ciara’s case was no different. She was ordered to come to an agreement with Future about custody.

While Future won that particular battle, he hasn’t won the war. He and Ciara have yet to take their two other lawsuits before a judge. On April 13, TMZ reported that Future filed a lawsuit against his ex. The documents were filed in response to her defamation suit from January, which claims he damaged her career by making libelous statements on social media.

As was reported by E! Online, the rapper tweeted about his custody battle with Ciara. He told his 2.45 million Twitter followers that he had been barred from visitation with his son, claiming Ciara was doing so out of spite. He alleged that the drama started over “[$]15k a month,” adding that it had been going on for more than a year. Future later tweeted there was no way he could have damaged Ciara’s career, as it ended long ago. TMZ noted that Future called Ciara’s fan base “reasonably large,” but had very little positive comment about her latest album, “Jackie.”

Though it is clear how Future feels about his former fiancée and her body of work, he claims he’s not the only one who’s been hurling insults. On Feb. 2, TMZ reported that he found Ciara’s legal proceedings “absurd.” One source told the publication that he was confused as to why the mother of his child was suing him for speaking ill of her when she was doing the same thing. The source added that Ciara had been far more calculated in her trash talk, doing a majority of it in her music. One song in particular — “I Bet” — appears to be about her split from the rapper.

It remains unclear if Future was allowed to see his son on his birthday.
