Some members of the G20 group of major economies are jointly urging European policy makers to resolve the region's sovereign debt crisis as quickly as possible, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said on Wednesday.

I think there's reason for continuing concern. The matter is very urgent, Flaherty told reporters.

I've been discussing with some of my other colleagues in the G20. We're all of the same view, and we've communicated that to our European colleagues in the euro zone, that we need to get to a conclusion here, he said.

Flaherty would not say which countries in the G20 group of advanced and emerging economies he had spoken to.

Earlier on Wednesday, he said European policymakers were moving in the right direction as they prepare for a summit on Friday to try to hammer out a deal to enforce stricter budget discipline in the euro zone and restore market trust.

We're hopeful that our colleagues in the euro zone will make very substantial progress on Friday, said Flaherty.
