The Game is celebrating 12 years of being a hip hop recording artist. The 37-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jayceon Terrell Taylor, proudly took to social media to share how his debut album catapulted him to fame and to thank the people who helped him along the way.

On Wednesday, The Game posted a snap of the cover of his first album, titled “The Documentary,” which dropped on Jan. 18, 2005. The Compton rapper made a lengthy post alongside the cover, detailing how the album went on to sell 10 million copies worldwide.

“The Documentary” was an album that did not only introduce The Game to the hip hop scene, but also told his story, starting from his childhood to the time he was shot in 2001. The impressive storytelling of the rapper’s tracks was what made a huge impression among listeners, as per XXL Mag.

The Game’s debut album garnered huge success in a matter of months. In its first week, the album reached gold. Then, it went on to become double platinum in two months. The singles that brought success to the first G-Unit representative who wasn’t from New York City include “Westside Story,” “This Is How We Do” and “Hate It Or Love It,” according to The Source.

It may have been more than a decade already, but The Game remains grateful to the people who helped him with his debut. In his Instagram post, the father-of-three thanked Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, his brother Big Fase 100 and G Ride for all of their help at a time when he was working on turning his dream into reality. He also thanked his fans who continue to support him until today.

In addition, The Game also recognized his contemporaries Snoop Dogg, Xzbit and Tyrese, as well as fellow artists Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar and YG, for their influence in the music scene. Before wrapping up his post about his debut album, The Game recalled how he enjoyed listening to Nasir Jones and Tupac Shakur when he was young.
