Tom Wlaschiha gave some insight about his character in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 and explained some of the scenes in a recent interview. The actor plays the role of Jaqen H’ghar, or the Faceless Man, in the popular HBO television series. [Spoiler alert]

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) has been training to be a master assassin under Jaqen. Wlaschiha explains the training process in an interview with HBO, posted on the official MakingGameofThrones website. The actor agreed that the training has been “rigorous” and pointed out that the House Black and White was not a “fun place” -- and if it were easy to become a Faceless Man then anyone would be able to do it.

One episode in the current season showed how Jaqen beat Arya with a stick every time she lied to him in a game designed to test a person’s ability to lie. Wlaschiha said that the game was played to sharpen the senses and was similar to an actor training for a role. Just as an actor assumes the role of a character, a Faceless Man will have to “take of a different walk or a different voice” in order to become someone else for a mission.

The actor explained that his character’s intention in “Game of Thrones” Season 5 is to teach Arya, but he will not make it “easy for her.” Jaqen wants the little girl to find her “own way and really grow.” One lesson she was taught was to be able to lie convincingly.

Talking about the set of the Hall of Faces, the actor said that he was expecting to see a lot green screens for computer-generated imagery (CGI) scene backgrounds. He later found out that the producers had actually built the huge set with “hundreds and hundreds of masks on the wall.” The physical set is said to have helped the actor while filming the scene.

While Arya Stark is training to be an assassin, her sister Sansa (Sophie Turner) is continuing to suffer. The preview video shows that Sansa will talk to Theon (Alfie Allen) about their troubles in the next episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 5. The episode will also feature Jon going to find the Free Folk and back in King’s Landing the trial by the High Sparrow continues.
