“Game of Thrones,” Jorah Mormont
Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) is just one of many surprising characters returning to Season 7 of “Game of Thrones.” HBO

The upcoming season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is shaping up to be a good one. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are going to finally come together in Season 7 and it seems they’ll be in good company.

New photos, snapped by fans in Bilbao, Spain, suggest that Jon (Kit Harington) will face Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) for the first time since his betrayal in Season 2. “Game of Thrones” fans will recall that when the HBO original series kicked off, Theon was a good friend of the Stark family until his jealousy over Robb’s (Richard Madden) title and the constant reminders that he was not an actual member of the family got the best of him. As such, their Season 7 meeting will, as the photos posted on Celebuzz show, be a contentious one.

In one still, Theon and Jon are seen standing on the shoreline as Jon grabs his old family friend by the shirt. Another, seemingly taken just moments later, shows the former bastard of Winterfell pulling Theon in close for a stern chat.

Other photos reveal a major spoiler about two characters some fans likely forgot about. Gendry (Joe Dempsie) — the last living son of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) — is finally done rowing and will also apparently encounter Jon, Daenerys and the gang in Season 7. His return should come as quite a surprise to Davos, who sent him out into the ocean in the first place. It is unclear whether Gendry will team up with Jon, Daenerys or both.

The Mother of Dragons will also encounter a ghost from her past in the form of Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen). Recall that Daenerys sent him away several seasons ago to find a cure for grey scale. Clarke previously stated that Jorah returning would be integral to her character taking the Iron Throne, which gives us hope that Jorah has cured his ailment and is ready to get his Khaleesi yet another title.

Early fan photos and videos snapped by Thronies in Basque Country, Spain, showed Jon and Daenerys chatting cliffside, confirming that the two would come face-to-face in the upcoming season of “Game of Thrones.” Spanish-language spoiler group Los Siete Reinos believes it is Dragonstone — an ancient city the Targaryens once called home. The blog reported that “Game of Thrones” was slated to film in a number of locations in Spain, which would likely be edited together to create the appearance of one mythical water-side city. Daavos, along with several members of Daenerys’ large army, were also seen on set at the time.

Confirmation of Jon and Daenerys’ meeting is made that much more intriguing by the fact that it has been rumored that the remaining Starks will reunite in Season 7. That theory began circulating after Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Arya (Maisie Williams) were photographed in a production trailer together. Spoiler group Watchers on The Wall obtained the pictures, which also included the tiny, but fierce Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey). This idea has given birth to plenty of theories about if, how and why Bran, Arya, Jon and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) may come together.

Bran is currently acting as the three-eyed raven and is the only person who knows the truth about Jon and Daenerys being related, so it seems plausible that he may relay the truth about the R + L = J theory — which revealed late in Season 6 that Jon’s mother is Lyanna Stark (Aisling Franciosi) and his father is Rhaegar Targaryen. This theory is furthered by the fact that fans believe the son of the Mad King, who has never appeared in “Game of Thrones,” may finally be featured in Season 7.

It is unclear at this time what Gendry and Jorah’s return to “Game of Thrones” means for Daenerys’ quest for the Iron Throne and the series as a whole. Season 7 kicks off in 2017 with just seven episodes.
